About British Business Funding

Helping UK businesses find the right funding, without having to navigate the market alone

Who are British Business Funding?

British Business Funding is a UK commercial finance broker and business funding specialist helping businesses understand, compare and access finance from a wide range of lenders.

Founded by John Carter and Josh O’Neill, British Business Funding was built around a simple idea: finding business finance should be clearer, faster and more personal.

Instead of leaving business owners to approach multiple lenders individually, our team takes the time to understand what a business needs, identifies suitable funding options from across our lender network and supports the business throughout the process.

From business loans and invoice finance to asset finance, revolving credit facilities, trade finance, purchase order finance and commercial property funding, our focus is on helping UK businesses find finance that fits their requirements.

Accredited and registered. British Business Funding is a member of the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB) and the Financial Intermediary and Broker Association (FIBA). Registered in England, company number 12752630.

Founder & Managing Director

John Carter is the Founder and Managing Director of British Business Funding and leads the company’s commercial finance operations.

Working directly with both businesses and lenders, John is responsible for understanding clients’ funding requirements, identifying suitable finance structures and helping businesses navigate the commercial lending market.

His work spans a broad range of funding requirements, including business loans, working capital, invoice finance, asset finance and Growth Guarantee Scheme-backed facilities.

John’s approach is centred around understanding how a business operates before considering the finance available to it. Rather than treating funding as a simple rate comparison, he looks at the purpose of the finance, the business’s financial position, lender criteria and the structure of the proposed facility.

He also manages many of British Business Funding’s relationships across the UK commercial lending market.

Why Businesses Work With British Business Funding

Access to a Wider Funding Market

The most suitable lender for a business is not always its existing bank.

Different lenders specialise in different sectors, business profiles, funding purposes and deal structures. Working with a commercial finance broker gives businesses the opportunity to explore options from a broader part of the market without approaching every lender individually.

A Human Approach to Business Finance

Commercial finance cannot always be reduced to an automated eligibility score.

We take the time to understand why the funding is needed, how the business operates and what the finance needs to achieve. Our Funding Managers remain available throughout the process to answer questions and keep clients informed.

Experience Across Different Types of Funding

The right solution may not always be a traditional business loan.

Depending on the circumstances, invoice finance, asset finance, revolving credit, trade finance or another specialist facility may provide a more appropriate structure.

Our role is to consider the wider funding requirement rather than force every business into the same type of finance.

Relationships Across the Lending Market

Commercial lending criteria can vary significantly between providers.

By maintaining relationships with banks, challenger banks and specialist alternative lenders, our team can better understand where different types of funding requirements may fit within the market.

Clear, Straightforward Communication

Business owners have businesses to run.

We aim to make the funding process easier to understand, explain the available options clearly and keep communication straightforward from the first conversation onwards.
